 Hand made paper

Hand made paper using a variety of different paper pulp such as cartridge, newspaper and tissue paper.
I went on to experiment with encasing different objects such as hand dried flowers, buttons and beads within the layers of the paper fibres. I also used the buttons and the beads to emboss into the drying paper.

Mono printing

Here i have experimented with creating illustration work and sketches using the technique of mono printing....drawing free hand straight onto the inks.

Hand made felt

I experimented with creating fine delicate felt encasing pressed flowers within the different fiber layers to create a vintage touch.

Press print

I collected a range of materials that gave different texture and print. The objects gathered were placed on top of the ink board and paper and put into the press to create these effects...

Heat press and transfer ink print

Using again a range of different objects that would create texture and embossed print. working with different coloured transfer inks onto paper which can then transfer on to the fabric once in the heat press.

The brief

I have set myself a brief to create my own boutique label inspired by my love of vintage fashion. I aim to design and create a spring/summer collection capturing the essence of the 1950's period, focusing on the shapes, style and print that is iconic to this era.
I want to look at the traditional seaside specifying in the 50's, focusing on the iconic landmarks to inspire print ideas.
I want to bring a quirky and contemporary edge to my collection through the idea of print and embellishment.

THE BRIEF

For 2011 F.A.D. invites you to make your Escape.

Escape from the everyday into a place of wonder and distraction. Retreat to a physical or fictional place that holds personal meaning for you.

Design two complementary outfits which express your notions of Escape. Use form, colour and texture inspired by your escapist vision.

Your chosen destination of Escape could be real, imagined, or somewhere in between. You may incorporate physical references, looking to environments, constructions and spaces for inspiration. Or perhaps you will be inspired by illusion, humour and the ‘magically real’ to create garments where things aren’t quite as they seem.

You may decide to include the following ideas within your two designs:

+ Use of unexpected materials and processes+ Magical, illusionary methods of construction
+ Playful scale
+ Inventive, witty details
+ Colours collated from your escapist environment

FDA........Jenny Packham design house project

Diamond Doll

I completed my work placement at Jenny Packham design house situated in Kentish town, London.
Jenny, a British women's wear designer, specialising in high end bridal and ready to wear evening wear.
The style Jenny portrays within her design work is very feminine and sensual incorporating vintage cuts and delicate fabrics adorned with elaborate detailing.
My inspiration is drawn from the delicate detailing of the lingerie range and the soft hues of the colour palettes envisioned from previous collections at the design house. To create that old show time glamour, i captured essences from the frivolous show girls of the 1920's, focusing on the lavish adornment and beading in which decorated their costumes.

Hand Beading                                                                                                      

Hand beading work using beads pearls and broken jewellery that I collected in antique shops n stalls, creating an art deco geometric shapes within the collar using the beads and pearls.
