Hand made gifts

A selection of gifts i created and made for that sweet personal touch and for that special someone to have a gift to remmember

The fabric Wendy house

A playhouse always sparks imagination and creative play. A great hideaway to confine many adventures and childhood memories.
I customised the detail and decoration on the play house for my special little friend with the felt applique creatures and items that represent this little child. The play house can be customised for each diferent little client.

I catched a Fairy wishes

Hand made fairy in a jar customised to my friends personal tastes. The fairy is captured in her own little world of magic and wonder.

Paper doll

Hand drawn jointed paper doll with designed paper clothing inspired by Alice adventures in wonderland. the clothing was left uncoloured so that the gift can be decorated however you would like.

Private work......customsing alterations on a clients wedding dress

I have had the opportunity to work privately on a clients wedding dress, working to her particular design brief to produce her dream dress. I worked on creating customising touches to enable my client to own her dress of her desire. Here are a selection of photographs showing the development of my work such as making up the hand made roses, beading with the incorporated colours red and black and creating the pleated sleeve details.

The hand made roses created by 7 circles for each flower, hand sewing each flower and then hand stitching onto the bust of the dress.

Hand beading work onto the lace appliques, introducing the chosen colour palette of my client red and black. the small accents of the colour delicately introduces the palette without over powering the whole dress.

Hand made pleated detachable sleeve detail. Created as a discrete cover up, using a sheer chiffon with a circular rose flower detail on top of the shoulders. Introducing the black from the colour palette.

FDA.......Life Drawing

I had the trained experience of developing the knowledge and importance of body proportions using the technique of life drawing.

A figure drawing is a drawing of the human form in any of its various shapes and postures using any of the drawing media. The term can also refer to the act of producing such a drawing. The degree of representation may be from highly detailed, anatomically correct renderings to loose and expressive sketches. A "life drawing" is a drawing of the human figure from observation of a live model.

FDA.....the secret garden textile project

The theme and the brief

The brief was to design a shirt while using the textile techniques we had learnt in our textile tutorials, to embellish and to add texture to the shirt.
The theme was based on the four season spring/summer/autumn/winter, taking inspiration from the effects the seasons have on our surroundings and nature.

I want to base my theme on spring and focus my inspiration on the story of the secret garden. I would like to create the feel of the growing garden that had been forgotten through out the years.

Concept board

The techniques i would like to take forward with and experiment further for my textile embellishment.
I think the flower in captured felt would work really well with my theme, representing the forgotten flowers covered in cobwebs.
I also wanted to work with mono printing as i felt it created a free natural feel and screen printing for the intricate detailing.

Sketchbook ideas

I found some beautiful old family photographs of children playing in the garden and having adventures outside where the wild flowers grow. i started to incorporate the photos through my sketch book created a story within. i thought the imagery of the little girls and boys would work beautifully as a print as well as the collation of the wild flowers from my screen prints.
I started looking at the styles and shapes for my shirt, deciding to inspire the style by looking at the Edwardian nightshirts worn by Mary from the story of the secret garden.

Design development and development of prints

I wanted to create an old antique feel so i chose inks that represented the sepia tones of the old photographs. i worked with a textile technician while creating my prints, first working on the pixels of the photographs so can translate with intricate detail on to screen and into print.

The final print embellishment and felt detail. the was inspired by the collage effect based in my sketchbook. layering up the different prints of the little children in the garden with the wild mono print flowers surrounding them. the hand made felt encasing dried rose buds and lavender storks with  hand embroidered messages within the felt.
